Incubation Programme

Empowering Local Entrepreneurs
The Harry Gwala Development Agency (HGDA) is driving entrepreneurship and local enterprise development through its Incubation Programme, supporting small businesses in both the digital and automotive sectors. By providing access to infrastructure, mentorship, and market opportunities, the programme enables emerging entrepreneurs - especially youth, women, and persons with disabilities - to establish sustainable businesses that contribute to the District’s economic growth.

Mobile Cellular Phone and Tablet Repairs

In partnership with the Moses Kotane Institute (MKI), HGDA launched an incubation initiative in Mobile Cellular Phone and Tablet Repairs. Selected participants received accredited training alongside tools of trade, allowing them to start and manage local repair businesses. Beyond technical skills, the programme provides mentorship in business management, client services, and enterprise sustainability, ensuring that learners can successfully transform their skills into viable, income-generating enterprises.

Tyre Fitment and Repair Facilities – Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (SRSA)

HGDA has also partnered with Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (SRSA) to establish fully fitted Tyre Fitment and Repair Facilities across the District. Through a Service Level Agreement, four container-based facilities were set up to support emerging entrepreneurs in townships and rural areas. SRSA provides participating businesses with credit facilities, market entry support, and aftercare, enabling them to deliver tyre repair services while growing sustainable enterprises. This initiative specifically targets previously disadvantaged groups, fostering entrepreneurship, creating jobs, and promoting self-reliance.

Programme Objectives

Through these incubation initiatives, HGDA aims to:

  • Enable small businesses to establish and grow sustainable enterprises.
  • Create employment opportunities within local communities.
  • Foster an entrepreneurial culture and self-reliance.
  • Contribute to socio-economic development and local economic growth.
  • Encourage skills development, innovation, and market competitiveness.

By combining practical infrastructure, business support, and mentorship, the HGDA Incubation Programme strengthens the district’s small business ecosystem, empowering entrepreneurs to thrive in both digital and automotive sectors while contributing to the Harry Gwala District’s broader economic transformation.
